Coming Out of the Music Closet

I blame my wife for my newfound appreciation of country music... I grew up in San Diego, CA where I listened to all different kinds of music... country was NOT one of them. :) In fact, I had an acute distaste for country music. It started out as letting Em have her way (every once in a while :) when we were driving... I didn't mind it so much; after all, some of it was not too twangy and had some decent lyrics. Plus, she really loves country and I always want to be able to appreciate things that she loves... I should write a blog post about that topic ALONE... for another day though :)... Back to the story. So things started getting out of control; I started listening to country when I was driving BY MYSELF; going to work, coming home, going to the store, I found myself listening to it more often than not! It all came to a head when yesterday we were driving and I was talking about the Zach Brown band and how he doesn't quite fit the usual country mold. She just looked at me with a furrowed brow and said "Since when do you know more about country music than I do?"

Reality check. :)

I realize that I may lose some cool points with some of you so let me explain myself :). I have had a little bit of time to think about why country music appeals to me. I have listened to melancholy music since high school or before... That was pretty much all I listened to, in fact. For the past few years, the music that most appeals to me is happy upbeat music (A lot of modern folk music like Jack Johnson for instance). I find that most of the stuff I hear on the radio from rap to rock to even Christian radio, most of it is depressing! I need something in my day that is happy and leaves me in a good mood... Now country music has a reputation for being kill-yourself depressing. I don't know if that is how it used to be and things have just changed, but it is now dominantly positive music. Really :-) I actually love the value that they place on loving their wives, on second chances, on having fun and enjoying life for what it is... This isn't ALL country music, that's not what I am saying, but it cannot be denied that the country genre has more traditional American values than any other genre out there. So it's not anywhere near my favorite thing to listen to, but it's enjoyable at the least and Em and I both like it which is a plus as well...

Segue.

So yesterday we were supposed to be taking pictures of my brother and his family , but the wind was atrocious so we had to reschedule... Em and I still had the time set aside and we needed some new pics for our website of our family, so we went out and took a couple pics... We still desperately need to get some family pics taken so if there are any photographers out there that would love the opportunity to take pics of an absolutely adorable family :), let me know and maybe we can swap services. :P

Here's a couple good ones... my wife and daughter are so beautiful aren't they? I would much rather be behind the camera than in front of it, but hopefully the ones of me aren't too awful. Have a good Wednesday everyone!

Some lucky guy gets to kiss her everyday :)

This is what I call my Jeidi Wrap. It's a little too hippie for my taste, like I'm showing how 'Earthy' I am, but it's the best thing to carry her around in :D

She bringing it in for a landing... "Dad, don't distract me , I'm all business right now."
