Man trip

This is the last blog post for the week, everyone. Tomorrow I am going to be deep in the wilderness with a backpack and a knife and some trail mix. :) A few of the boys and I are leaving the women behind and going on a backpacking trip for the weekend... a pretty INTENSE trip, actually. We are going to the Jordan Hot Springs in New Mexico to get out of the city and get reacquainted with nature. This is going to be a 2 1/2 day trip, hiking in tomorrow early afternoon and back out Sunday night. There are around 50 river crossings, so I have read, over the course of this 24.6 mile hike. The last day is a 10 mile hike and we need to pack all the water before we start it because there won't be a place to refill along the way. Not the kind of hike you try to rush through, one that you take your time with and enjoy the landscape around you. It should be pretty intense and challenging. :) I am going with 2 of my brother in laws, Caleb and Daniel, and Daniel's brother Ivan. Daniel has hiked this trail before and said it was one of the raddest trips he has been on so I am really stoked to see firsthand for myself. Here's a picture from the trail I took from a website...

Now I haven't gone on a backpacking trip since I was about 10 so I am interested to see how I fair; I THINK I will cope just fine as I have a pretty good endurance for distances, and since I'm not going to have a heavy pack I am not worried. However... I could be completely wrong and halfway through wonder what I got myself into :). We shall see.

Emily and I bought a new camera to play with, a Canon Powershot G10. We have really been wanting to get a camera/video recorder so I am really excited about it and want to christen it by taking it on my backpacking trip. When I get back I should have some pretty rad shots as well as some great video to post. Anyone have any good plans for the weekend?

  2. That sounds amazing... I don't know that I could endure all that walking, but cheers to you for giving it your best shot! Aaron and I are taking a ship to an island for the week and camping on the beach! :)
