Something new for me :)

About a month ago I got an email from Shawna, a contact of mine that hired me about 6 months ago to shoot a non-profit fundraiser (you may remember it, it was for Hope 4 Women). Well she was hosting a bridal shower for her cousin Alyssa and wanted to know if I would want to do photography for it. I must admit that the idea of shooting an event with ALL women was a little intimidating to me, especially a bridal shower :)... I am like most guys, I stay as far away as possible when women get together for those things :D I also wondered if all the ladies would think it weird that their was a GUY taking pictures at the Shower and act awkward... After all, I have heard rumors that their are some pretty interesting topics of conversation at Showers and if I was there, would they all look at me to see what I thought (ladies, you KNOW what I'm talking about, don't pretend like you don't!) Luckily, there wasn't anything talked about that would make me want to crawl inside of my camera and wait for a safe time to come out :P. It actually went really well, all the ladies had a great time. I DID notice that there was a tinge of embarrassment if I caught one of them in a photograph at the chocolate fountain... I thought that was pretty humorous :) Like they were busted and there was proof... Relax, ladies, I am not into blackmailing! :D

Alyssa is getting married in November and I wish her an amazing time on her wedding day! Here are some of the images from the shower.

The chocolate fountain... I was tempted, but I thought it unprofessional to divulge as a male photog at a Bridal Shower :)

Alyssa's mama... I had a great conversation with her, she is a completely sweet individual and loves her daughter very much. I could relate to her in a SMALL way... She was happy yet sad that her little girl was getting married. I can empathize, knowing my little girl is going to get married someday and then she will no longer be my responsibility. I know it is not the same thing because Temple is still in diapers :) But still... time flies and before I know it I will be walking her down that aisle. :(

So there you have it; my very first photo shoot at a Bridal Shower... I enjoyed the event as well as hearing what women say when there aren't any guys around... I didn't count because I was a hired professional :).

  1. That's so neat! New experiences are great! Especially as a photographer!

I wanted comment on the picture below the elderly ladies, with the the girl looking to her right. When I saw the picture, I thought wow! That girl is sooo naturally gorgeous! Plus, the way you took the photo, black and white with that specific look on her face with her body position looking off to her right, looks so beautiful! It seems like a snapshot from back in time. Like something you would see in a movie.
