Camping trip

Emily, the kids and I had a great time last week on our camping trip! We went with my parents and stayed at White Horse Lake Camp up in Williams, AZ for a couple nights. I cannot tell you how amazing it was to get out of the heat and enjoy some cooler weather! On top of that, it's depressing to go a really long period of time in the desert without any green for your eyes to feast on. Being surrounded by pine trees and a lake a few yards away was heaven.

We knew of this particular spot because my mom's Aunt Minnie and Uncle Bob are the camp hosts 6 months out of the year. Bob and Minnie are such fun people and they really understand the meaning of hospitality. They were dropping off supplies and a whole bunch of other things without us even asking! If we needed a blanket, we had it within the hour. It was great! :)

Temple was all over the place up there! We really had to keep an eye on her lest she run off with a pack of wolves.

I got the chance to do some nature shooting, which I enjoy but never have time for.

On Saturday morning, Minnie came down to our camp site and said that there was a stray horse from the property next to the camp that came over to the camp grounds where a tree had fallen on the fence. I grabbed my camera and headed up there as soon as I could to see if I could get some shots and help them get the horse back to the other side. We didn't succeed in getting it over, but we got a lot of excercise doing it as the horse ran all over the grounds :)

I'm not too familiar with horses so I kept a tree between me and him for the most part because I didn't know if being on unknown territory would cause him to feel threatened or not. he eventually got used to me following him and I even came within 1o yards of him to get some better shots.

He's not sure what to think of me.

Here's where he came across the fence.

We followed him around for a while. Any time we got close, he would move around us and keep his distance.

At one point his buddies on the other side of the fence came to see what he was up to.

This guy even let Bob and I pet his face. Such a gorgeous horse!

Eventually, later in the afternoon, we drove by and saw all four horses hanging out by the road so they must have found a way back together.

So that was our camping trip! Can't wait for when the kids are a little bit older and can get crazy with daddy wilderness style :)
