A Wedding Post: DJ & Perla

It was early April. I (Emily) received a call from a very bubbly bride-to-be about doing her wedding photography. I could tell in her voice how excited she was to be getting married and so naturally, I started to get giddy too! I LOVE hearing all the wedding details (even if they don't directly relate to photography) so I adored listening to her sweet voice going on about every little detail of her big day. She even emailed me a very long email to tell me about how she bought a NEW wedding dress because her old one just wasn't what she had always dreamed about. I absolutely loved the email, and feeling like I was more than just "the photographer" at her wedding. I was her friend too. :)

DJ & Perla are such a unique couple. Our first meeting with them, they were trying to give us a vision for their wedding, and they wanted to be as artsy & urban as possible. Perla has a love for photography, and DJ is good at all things involving art. Infact, he even MADE their cake toppers because he could not find any that were suitable for himself and his bride. Andrew and I could not stop talking about how excited we were for their wedding.

The wedding day finally arrived, and with the hustle & bustle of details and out of town family and guests, DJ & Perla remained delightfully calm and took everything in stride. Their reception took place at the church they met at, St. John Vianney Catholic Church, and was a very traditional Catholic Ceremony. DJ & Perla told us that they wanted to go to Tempe Town Lake to do their pictures, and we took way more time than was allotted. We had so much fun! I love when brides don't care that they are walking in their full wedding garb down a street packed with people and are confident aside from all the looks and curiosity. Perla just charged those streets with a look of satisfaction, almost to say "Yes, this is MY day. Yes, he is MY man. :)) So awesome!

We arrived at their reception which took place at 12 West Main (just about the coolest venue ever), and the whole feel was just a perfect mix of artsy & urban, yet parts of it still honored mexican traditions. After the food, all everyone did was dance dance dance. We have never seen so many people dance at a wedding! DJ and Perla were some of the best dancers on the floor and Andrew and I got a kick out of watching them! We could have watched them all night long (oh wait, we practically did. :)) We had a blast at their wedding, and enjoyed every minute of snapping pictures.

So without further ado, here is some of the fun:
